Our Weekly Market Jersey Rose Veal is bred, reared and butchered by Neil Weston of Kersdown Barton on his family farm in Devon where he runs a herd of Pedigree Jersey Dairy cows and for several years now has reared the Jersey bull calves to produce Rose Veal.
Neil says, "We rear our Jersey and Guernsey bull calves to produce lean Rose Veal, instead of having them suffer the same fate as many other dairy bull calves by being shot at birth. The calves are reared outdoors in the summer in groups of 24, and indoor in huge straw courts in the winter in groups of 12. The are fed milk twice a day plus a heatlhy diet of grass, our own hay and feed to include all the nutrients they need. We have been given the highest award by Compassion in World Farming for our welfare standards."
