Hefeweizens originated in 16th-century Bavaria, where the ruling Wittelsbach family held a wheat beer monopoly despite the Reinheitsgebot limiting beer to barley. The style nearly vanished in the 19th century but was revived by Georg Schneider. Known for its hazy appearance and banana-clove aroma, Hefeweizen remains a classic Bavarian brew.
