Amidst turquoise sea, white sand, dramatic mountains and shimmering lochs you will find Alex tending to his Smokery and Lodge. Taking its name from the Norse word for “bay”, Uig Lodge is a fishing lodge and smokery set in a dramatic position overlooking the magnificent white sands of Uig Bay, on the west-coast of Lewis.
Alex’s father and uncle originally established the Smokery in 1984, when Alex was living a very different urban life in Warwickshire. It was his wife Eli who first felt the call of the wild and suggested packing up sticks and moving to the Outer Hebrides.
Since then they have fully embraced their calling and manage the Lodge and Smokery in these unique and magnificent surroundings.

Alex only uses the best quality fish sourced from the crystal clear waters of the North Atlantic sea. In 2007 all their hard work was recognised when they were awarded their first Gold Star in the Guild of Fine Food’s Great Taste Awards.
In 2011 they were awarded 3 gold stars and shortlisted for a national award and they repeated this feat in 2013. Finally, on 8th September 2014, in their 30th year, they won one of the major national awards presented by Great Taste, 'Speciality Producer of the Year' and received their first ever golden fork!
